IMPERIAL PAINT DEPARTMENT DOOMS DUST
Imperial paint technicians in their continuing war on dust have called in their front-line "dust-fighters" in the form of air "insulation", air "washing", and sticky "wallpaper".
To maintain the traditionally dust-free atmosphere in the paint area, technicians employ their "dust - fighting" forces in this way: More than 1,500,000 cubic feet of air per minute is sucked into the Imperial air filtering center through 14 air supply houses located on the top of the plant building. The "raw" air is first forced through a large mesh screen with one-half-inch holes to eliminate large foreign matter. It is passed over fixed louvres which keep out rain and snow, is pre-heated by a series of burners, and is sent over a series of spray nozzles. The water spray "wets-down" and eliminates heavy floating dirt particles.
Next, the air passes through a roll-type filter which eliminates more particles, and is re-heated to a 78 degree F. temperature. It is then blown into a plenum chamber and spray booths whose walls, ceilings, and floors are covered with a tacky, non-drying material designed to catch any remaining particles. As an added precaution the air is finally passed through a series of four-inch-thick filters which absolutely eliminate any dust trace.
This "cleaner-than-country-fresh-air" then enters the enclosed paint department. The air in the department is slightly pressurized in order to keep air flowing outwardly, thus never allowing unfiltered air to enter paint department.
